AGM – in brief

The AGM was a positive and lively event, attended by mainly familiar faces but some brave new ones as well. The proposed budget was reviewed and will be finalised at our next meeting when our finances are clearer. On the costs side, new commitments in 2010 include conductors for the string and percussion ensembles. On the income side, we hope that MEP membership will grow, and also are relieved to have been appointed official caterers for the NSW School Bands Festival once again.

A new committee was appointed with some critical roles left unfilled: we are still looking for a convenor and also need parent coordinators for the guitar and percussion ensembles and the choir.  If you have a child in one of these ensembles please think about taking on a parent coordinator role – basically  this involves helping out at performances, so is occasional only (and could be shared with someone else). Main tasks are to attend performances of the particular ensemble and:

  • Take the roll
  • Check uniforms
  • Maintain emergency uniform box
  • Assist and supervise

Please get in touch asap if you would be prepared to take this on – email Luke at director@mep.net.au.

Have a look at who’s on the new committee here. You’ll see there are a lot more positions than there used to be – a sign of how the dramatic growth in the program’s numbers and activities has brought with it a lot more things to do. In recognition of this the college is now funding a part-time administrative support person  (approximately six hours a week) for the MEP – for which we are extremely grateful to principal Jim Linton. Vicky Cameron, a parent at the school, will be filling this role (and also is staying on in the voluntary role of assistant treasurer).

We’re planning to make minutes of meetings etc available here on the website – not quite there yet, but it won’t be long.
